NAES COLLEGE - Central Library

Public Policy and Tribal Research Center and Archives

The NAES College Public Policy and Tribal Research Center and Archives located on the Chicago Campus is a non-circulating research library which contains over 10,000 cataloged materials focusing on contemporary Native America. The collections consist of books, journals, articles, census materials, government reports, legal documents and cases, curriculum materials, student field projects, videos, photos, audio cassettes, CDs, archival materials and manuscripts which focus on the political, economic, legal, cultural and historical development of Native American communities in the latter half of the 20th Century.

The Library and Archives is currently undergoing some changes. We are re-cataloging all of our materials using our new, home-grown, tribally centered classification system. The new system grew out of a need for a classification system that better reflected our collections and our needs.

Another change to the Center is the new cataloging system, LibraryCom. When we come on line with LibraryCom, students and visitors to our library will be able to look up materials available at each of the NAES campuses. Once a significant portion of our collections are accessible through the catalog, we will make it available to you from this web page.

Our Library hours are by appointment. If you have something in particular you are researching, we suggest you call in advance, it will give us a chance to gather some materials for you before you arrive (or it may save you a trip on the off-chance we don’t have what you are looking for).
