This new project is an inter-institutional cooperation project between NAES College and the University of Illinois at Chicago through its Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy, funded through the Illinois Board of Higher Education, HECA initiative. This project hopes to enhance the role of American Indians in higher education leadership through workshops, seminars, graduate student teaching and learning experiences, a publication on American Indian Scholars and an Illinois Native American Education Conference. For more information contact dpwiese@aol.com.

CHICAGO AMERICAN INDIAN EARLY EDUCATION AND NATIVE STUDENTS PROJECT
Early Education and Native Students is a research project to complete an assessment and feasibility study regarding the general condition of education for Native students in Chicago's early childhood, elementary, and secondary schools. MEDICINE SHIELD AMERICAN INDIAN LEADERSHIP THROUGH SERVICE INSTITUTE
The Medicine Shield American Indian Leadership Through Service Institute seeks to develop traditional American Indian leadership models of community change based on community service, elder care initiatives, and the recognition of the importance of oral history among all tribal cultures. Students in the Leadership and Policy Studies courses serve as field researchers and policy advocates for this initiative.

WHITE THUNDER AMERICAN INDIAN TRIBAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY
The Honoring American Indian Tribal Languages Academy is the core department of language studies at NAES College. All students are required to take at least one year of a tribal language. Languages offered are Ojibwe, Lakota, Menominee, Navajo and Ho Chunk. Degree, non-degree students and community members are encouraged to attend these courses and workshops to facilitate the preservation and continued development of tribal knowledge.

STANDING EAGLE CENTER FOR ARTS MUSIC AND CULTURE
The Standing Eagle Center for Arts Music and Culture offers students and community members exposure to American Indian art, music, film, dance and culture. Courses, workshops, seminars, independent study and grant opportunities are also available to students and community members alike.

NATIVE EDUCATION IN THE 21ST CENTURY
The long-term purposes of this initiative are to develop within the Chicago Indian community a viable program for reversing the educational problems faced by children and their families, to educate American Indian families and the teachers of their children about effective methods of pursuing education, and to nurture among adult American Indians a cadre of caring and effective educational leaders who are themselves role models to their children. In the short term, this project will begin these processes by reaching out to families and teachers to begin to provide them with effective tools to shape the education of the children in Chicago's American Indian community, and will include community-wide seminars and forums on Native Education, Policy and Research. NAES COLLEGE ANNUAL POW-WOW:

Each year on the third weekend in June the NAES College Chicago Campus hosts a contest pow-wow at Mather Park in Chicago. The pow-wow features dancers and drums from across the United States, and pays out more than $20,000 in prize money. The beautiful outdoor setting provides a grass arena for dancers; usually about 40 vendors participate in this pow-wow. For a panoramic web view of the NAES pow-wow, visit http://www.beautifulview.com/powwow/index.html..
